You cross the square on your way home, put the key in and the cylinder does not even flinch, or you have left the bunch inside and the door has slammed shut. In Archidona, a town of old streets and open countryside in inland Málaga, a failing lock can catch you in the old town, in an outlying village or on an olive farm. Tell us on WhatsApp where you are and our locksmiths will reply at any hour, at night and on public holidays.
Archidona is a large municipality for its district, with some eight thousand inhabitants spread over four settlements: the town itself, Salinas, Estación de Archidona and Huertas del Río. In the town, the old quarter gathers between Calle Nueva, Calle Carrera and the squares of La Victoria and Ochavada, the latter an octagonal Baroque enclosure with arcades. Around it grew neighbourhoods such as El Ejido and San Antonio, and later the Llano de Juan de Jaén, with wider streets. The castle, the chapel of the Virgen de Gracia and the olive groves, which cover much of the municipality, complete the landscape.
Archidona has a tradition of woodwork and ironwork: its industrial estate hosts workshops making furniture, wooden doors and forged pieces. With that craft so present, many doors in the town deserve to be kept, so when a lock fails, the first thing we look at is how to renew it without touching the door leaf.
